Meetings between roma women in Catalonia are one of the most successful activities of Drom Kotar. The idea of these meetings is to create a space for dialogue where roma women is the main character and between all participating roma women to find solutions for school failure and absenteeism.
The meetings happen twice a year, a Saturday evening, in a school center and preferably in areas where roma population is high.
Meetings are composed by:
• an inauguration table (people who inaugurate the meeting)
• theme presentation (the theme selected about education is presented)
• an experiences table (roma girls and women studying who are positive references)
• Workgroups (conclusions proposed by all roma women are collected).
Among all we want a better change for roma people and their total inclusion in mainstream society as well as that our girls reach where they want without any discriminatory obstacle.
This way, we believe that education is the right way to overcome exclusion of roma people in the actual society. Besides, we believe that education is the first step to open us a way to achieve social inclusion and to close once and for all negative stereotypes that roma people have.
