WHAT IS IT?
Café Romí is a space for debate and egalitarian dialogue between Roma women, where they can discuss various issues that are of concern and importance to them.
HOW DID IT ORIGINATE?
Café Romí arose from a course of monitors held in the Bon Pastor neighbourhood (Barcelona).
The women taking part in the course expressed the need to have spaces among themselves where they could discuss their concerns, share experiences, discuss challenges and hopes, etc. For this reason, it was proposed that they meet on Fridays a while before the lessons to have a coffee together and talk in a relaxed atmosphere. This was the germ of what later became Café Romí, which is still one of the constants of the organisation today.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Once a month we invite other organisations or experts to come and share their experiences with the rest of the women. The other session has a more open or informal format; it is an egalitarian space for Roma women to talk about the issues that matter most to them.
